Honor,

Duty,

Valor,

Sacrifice,

The Ethics of Memory and Our Responsibility

In Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Korean War

On the early morning of June 25, 1950,
the sound of gunfire tore through the Korean Peninsula.
It was a day we can never forget.

Across Korea—and as far as Australia, New Zealand, and the United States—
various events are being held to mark the 75th anniversary.
But these are not just commemorations.
They are moments to reflect on the lessons of history
and to honor the noble sacrifices of those who served.

The Korean War is not a closed chapter of the past.
To this day, we remain under an armistice.
True peace has yet to be achieved.
That is why we must remember today and every day.

Honor

The honor of those who fought for their country does not fade with time.
Their devotion laid the foundation for the freedom and dignity we now enjoy.

Duty

They chose to protect their nation and families over their own safety.
Their sense of duty was not mere responsibility. it was the practice of belief.

Valor

They did not back down in fear.
Their courage shone not only on the battlefield,
but in every moment of their lives.

Sacrifice

Countless lives lost, families torn apart, dreams left unfinished.
Sacrifice is not a number.it is a living memory that must be passed on.

Memory is not a choice. It is a responsibility.

The Korean War is not just a historical event.
It is a question to all of us
How will we protect peace today?

Peace is not declared. It must be lived.
Memory is not mourning. It is responsibility.
And it must be recorded.

I share with you a deeply personal memory
a scar that my mother still carries to this day.
She was injured while fleeing during the Korean War.

This scar is not from a history book.
It is a living reminder that the war is not truly over.

If only for today,
I hope we live this day not in silence
but in memory.
Not in forgetting
but in remembrance and record.
